During your own career as a photographer there are things and people that inspire you to become the person or photographer that you are today, one of those people for me is Don McCullin, a true legend of the photographic world and a person who inspires me to create images that have a voice, that tell a story through photojournalism, either through my time with the forces during Project Afghan or through my ongoing career in Wedding Photography. It has also inspired me to want to find a vintage Nikon F2 camera and turn back the years with my photography and create images and memories by using film. So watch this space in the future for when I finally get my hands on a Nikon film camera.

Don McCullin

Don McCullin started as a photographic assistant in the Royal Air Force way back in 1959. But by 1966 he was on his way to becoming one of the worlds foremost photojournalists of our time. In his time during the seventies and eighties he covered conflicts such as in Vietnam, Cyprus, Northern Ireland, Lebanon, East & West Berlin and Cambodia, risking his life daily to gain these images.

His current work ‘Shaped by War‘ is the largest ever UK exhibition about the life and work of one of the worlds most acclaimed photographers. The exhibition, which features around 250 photographs, objects including the Nikon camera below, magazines and other personal memorabilia, documents McCullin’s 50 year career. His work can be seen at the Imperial War Museum London until the 15th April 2012.

The exhibition is accompanied by his book, Don McCullin: Shaped by War can be brought by any major book store or online. Below is just a few examples of the work captured by Don McCullin during his career.
